Hello, my name is Gleyder Roman Sosa, I am a post doc at the cell biology department since around a month. I just wanted to thank you all participating in the preparation of the "orientation handbook and resource guide", since it was very helpful for me in many issues, and along with the very nice support of the departmental administrative office,  made my "landing" at Einstein really painless. Thank you all, you did a great job !!

Hi
I am affraid the news are not very good, I am now entering the third month of employment with Aecom and I am still waiting to get paied. Apparently it is typical to wait for 2-3 months before you get paid properly.

You will definitely NOT get paid for the first 3 weeks (it also depends on whether you already have a social security number) and then all they do is give you a 60% salary advance until they manage to short out your paycheck.

I hope it will be easier for you than it has been for me!

Hi,

I am starting as a post doc at Einstein in about a week.  I was wondering if anyone can tell me about how long it takes from the time I will start working until the time I will get my first paycheck.  Thanks.

I'm looking to buy a TV to kill my boring evenings? Anyone selling and can deliver to Rhinelander?

Thanks for the help!  By the way, the photo issue might be browser related: I was able to view them in IE and Firefox 2, but not Firefox 3.

Hi Vince
I have never lived in postdoc housing, only in private housing in the neighbourhood, so I can't comment- I will see if I can point a few colleagues in the direction of this thread.

There should be photos of the housing on Williamsbridge Road at http://einsteinpostdocs.info/Site_2/housing.html - not sure why this isn't showing up for you, but I will try and sort it out.

Hi All,

I am (yet another) incoming postdoc with questions about housing.

Is there anywhere I could find info about what the different housing options are like?  I'm going to have to chose my unit sight unseen, so I'd like to know as much as possible before I do.  E.g. I noticed that the Rhinelander is close to train tracks and Pelham Parkway -- is there a lot of rail and traffic noise late at night?

I know y'all have better things to do than chat with strangers on the internet, but any information about the quality, desirability, vibe, etc. of the various housing options would be really helpful. Feel free to reply, or to just email me directly.

Many Thanks,

Vince

PS: I went to the housing section of the "Photos" page, but it seems like those photos aren't there anymore.

The first edition of the Einstein postdoc newsletter is now linked from the front page and the links page of our website. At the moment, the linked version is the pdf file- I tried to convert it to HTML too, but my initial (simplistic) approach failed spectacularly. I will have another go later this week.

Thanks to Helene, Aviva and Nirupama for all the hard work on the newsletter.

cheers

NTUSA's Moliere's Don Juan is sold out this week, but there are still tickets available for the extension dates through 3/22. They're going fast though so don't hesitate.....there was a great radio feature about the show on WNYC, you can listen to it here.  http://www.wnyc.org/news/articles/94480
